Overview:
I took a quick Commuter Rail ride from North Station to the city of sin, Lynn Massachusetts. Cam and I took a stroll around the historic Larry Gannon Golf Club. Established in 1931, Gannon is an 18-Hole design by famed Donald Ross contemporary Wayne Stiles. Gannon is owned by the city of Lynn and operated by Golf Facilities Management Inc. and longtime Golf Course Superintendent Steve Murphy.
Condition:
Gannon has a blue-collar golf feel from start to finish. Beautifully set in the Lynn Woods Reservation, you honestly forget you are in Lynn during the round. The course is 6,100 yards, Par 70 that has countless blind shots and can require a helmet on busy days. Steve Murphy keeps the course in fair shape, especially with the amount of play it gets during the summer. The quick view of Boston's skyline on the 5th hole is a cool touch, might as well be at Winchester CC.
Value:
9 Holes - $26-$28
18 Holes - $47-$55
Cart Fees - $10 pp for 9 holes, $20 pp for 18 holes
An opportunity to play 18 holes 20 minutes from Boston for under $80 is unheard of. It's definitely not our favorite layout and has it's quirks, but so many rounds within a short radius of the city are going to run $100+ for a mediocre experience.
Atmosphere:
Tudor style clubhouse hosts a great bar up top with live music that was rocking the day we were there. Wish we had the chance to stick around but highly recommend checking this out after your round.
