Overview:
Cape Neddick Country Club in Cape Neddick, Maine features 6,257 yards of golf from the longest tees with a par of 70. The course rating is 70.1 and it has a slope rating of 125 on Bent grass. Designed by Donald J. Ross, ASGCA/Brian M. Silva, ASGCA, our club was established in 1919.
This review dates back to our early days of Divots. My buddy Marcus and I were trying to escape our girlfriend's family vacation and sneak in a few holes. This course is tucked away from the craziness in Ogunquit but super accessible for a round on your Maine vacation.
Value:
Summer rates will run you $90 to walk 18 ($115 with a cart). Welcome to vacationland, where even a half decent track is going to run you over $100 to loop it around. I'm curious if many locals take advantage of their memberships with unlimited golf and no initiation fee.
Condition:
Two of my favorite course architects (Ross & Silva) had their hands in building this course, so I had high hopes in the layout even if conditions would be lacking. There's patches of greatness but the layout felt very bland given the signature features Ross & Silva can invigorate.
I'm sure this place gets a ton of public play in the summer months and maintenance can be tough to keep up, but there were massive divots spread around the fairways and tee boxes had taken a beating. Some areas were definitely plush, and there's certainly potential for greatness.
Atmosphere:
"The Sweet Spot" is Cape Neddick's restaurant/bar overlooking the 1st tee and 18th green. A solid heckle deck to continue your escape from your family's vacation.
